Community Iftar 2019
Jamiyah Singapore in co-operation with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently held a Community Iftar (Breaking of fast) session on 27 May 2019. Some 500 guests of different faiths such as from the Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Taoist and other faiths as well as top foreign diplomats joined our Muslim brothers and sisters for the Iftar session. Jamiyah is a strong advocate of inter-religious peace and harmony. The Community Iftar session with the strong support from the leaders reflect the common goal we all share in ensuring everyone in Singapore can live together harmoniously in this multi-religious society.
Agreeing to Jamiyah’s position, Special Guest Minister Iswaran (Minister for Communications and Information & Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations), praised the event. He said, “The more we build bridges, the less we build fences and the more we promote trust, the less we sow distrusts and the more we learn to work together rather than work apart from one another.” Gracing the event as Guest-of-Honour was Mr Melvin Yong (NTUC Assistant Secretary-General and MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC). Mr Melvin Yong distributed cash gifts to 55 beneficiaries from Jamiyah Singapore and The Church.
There were all smiles when guests of the different faiths broke the fast together. The Community event would not have been successful without the dedication, help and support from volunteers and staff from The Church and Jamiyah Singapore as well as all our guests.
