KOLEJ UNIVERSITI ISLAM MELAKA (KUIM) STUDENTS EXCHANGE PROGRAMME
The study tour by a group of students from the faculties of Nursing, Psychology and Hospitality of the Kolej Universiti Islam Melaka (KUIM) to Jamiyah Singapore from 14th March 2011 to 18th March 2011 is a development arising from the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by KUIM, represented by Vice-Chancellor, Prof Emeritus Datuk Wira Dr Mohd Yusoff and Jamiyah Singapore in November 2010.
Headed by faculty members, Ms Faliza Erylina Rameli and Ms Siti Aishah Yahya, the students from KUIM were in Jamiyah on an experiential programme to learn from the booming Hospitality industry in Singapore as well as the expanding Healthcare industry. This study programme to Jamiyah Singapore consisted of students engaging in Practicum at Jamiyah Nursing Home (Darul Syifa) for the Nursing students, Jamiyah Home for the Aged (Darul Takrim) for the Psychology students and Jamiyah Business School (JBS) for the Hospitality students.
KUIM was formed in 1994 under the state government of Malacca but has now been privatized. Ms Faliza Erylina and Ms Siti Aishah shared with Voice of Islam current happenings in Malacca; namely the competition in the different industries in Malacca and a surge in several industries, as being mainly due to the vibrant Tourism industry. The students from the Hospitality faculty are always in great demand as Malacca being a country rich in History, draws a multitude of visitors. The Healthcare sectors are also expanding and this growing need for Nursing and other Healthcare practitioners are being met by students from the Psychology and the Nursing faculties. Indeed, this study tour is only the beginning of a series of collaborations between Jamiyah Singapore and Kolej Universiti Islam Melaka.
