Haji Abu Bakar Maidin conferred |
President Haji Abu Bakar Maidin was conferred the rank “Darjah Kerabat Yang Termulia Sultan Mindanao” which carries the title “Dato’ Seri Paduka Utama, Mindanao” (DSPUM) from HRH The Sultan, Royal Sultanate of Marawi City Chair, Royal Sultanates of Mindanao, Philippines, in recognition of his contributions in strengthening cooperation between Jamiyah and the Philippines Muslim community, especially in welfare and education. The award was given on Friday, 23rd October 2009 at the Al-Malik Faisal Hall, Jamiyah Singapore. The Secretary General of the Royal Sultanate of Marawi City, Professor Dato’ Dr Hj. Mohd Hassan Cana, presented the award on behalf of the Sultanate, to Haji Abu Bakar Maidin. Haji Abu Bakar received a plaque with the award and His wife Hajjah Zainab Khamis was titled Datin Hajjah Zainab bte Khamis. Haji Abu Bakar Maidin also obtained the honorary citizenship of Marawi City. In his speech, Haji Abu Bakar, said he was deeply humbled and honoured by the kind thoughts of friends from Mindanao in conferring upon him the Award. He hoped Prof Dato Dr Haji Mohd Hassan Cana would convey his heartfelt and highest gratitude to His Royal Highnes, Sultan Engineer Haji Ali Asghar B Sani, Sultan of the Royal Sultanate of Marawi City for bestowing upon him the Award. Haji Abu Bakar also expressed that his achievements in the community service area, is the result of the collective work of his friends and colleagues, which include friends belonging to other races and faiths, including philanthropic organizations like the Lee Foundation, Singapore Buddhist Lodge, Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura, Yayasan Mendaki, Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Indian Muslim Associations, Business houses and charity minded and generous individuals and institutions as well as the media |
