‘EDUCATION WORKSHOPS & SEMINARS FOR PARENTS & YOUTHS’ |
| The education landscape is moving forward towards variety and flexibility to meet the students’ interests and strengths. Speaking at the Community Leaders’ Forum programme, ‘Education Workshops & Seminars For Parents & Youths’ organized by Jamiyah Singapore at the Sultan Mosque Auditorium on Sunday, 29 th June 2008, Mr Hawazi Daipi was quoted saying that ‘in parallel with capability-based education, various pathways are lined up to ensure that every child’s potential could be nurtured and developed’. Mr Hawazi Daipi, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Manpower & Ministry of Health, was the Guest-of-Honour at the event. The programme took place from 9.00am to 6.00pm. The one-day programme covered three activities which were run concurrently and targeted three different age groups. ‘Education Seminar for Parents: An Insight to Effective Parenting’ aimed to enhance the parents’ knowledge on the latest education sector landscape offered in Singapore. It focused on parents and provided efficient parenting skills. The guest speakers were Dr Bibi Jan Md Ayyub BBM and Mdm Suriati Abdullah. ‘Study and Life Skills Workshop: Learning English the fun and exciting way through hands-on media activities’ was attended by 50 students from Secondary 1 & 2 (Normal Technical stream). Mr Hisham Hasim, a ‘Berita Harian’ correspondent, was the guest speaker. The students were assigned to do a mock-up news reporting in groups. The best three teams were the ‘Great Singapore Sale’, ‘iPhone’ and ‘Youth Olympics’. ‘Career Workshop: A workshop dedicating to equip students with strategies for achievement in their chosen career’ for Secondary 3, 4 & 5 students was attended by 140 students. The objectives of the session are to update the students on career options with emphasis on new / sunrise sector of the economy such as Logistics, Education F & B (Restaurant & Catering), polish self-image and skills in marketing oneself, and create networking for a win-win situation. The guest speakers are Mr Azrin Abdul Rahim, a certified motivation consultant from IMG Promotions, and Mr Abu Ayubul Ansari. Aimed at helping the Malay/Muslim students to uplift their standards in their educational performance, the workshop/seminar was organized with a difference in that students and their parents would be able to enhance their knowledge and skills in the respective subjects whilst be motivated to focus on their efforts for a better future. It analysed the choices and opportunities available for the students. The highlight of the event was the motivational talk by the first Malay/Muslim astronaut from Malaysia, Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor who shared his experience and moment in space. |
