Visit from Bapak Yayan Ganda Hayat Mulyana of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia |
On 24th June 2009, Bapak Yayan Ganda Hayat Mulyana, First Secretary, Information, Social and Cultural Affairs, Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia visited Jamiyah Singapore to extend the goodwill of the Indonesian republic to Singapore. Speaking at the occasion, Bapak Yayan expressed how honoured he felt to be present in Jamiyah for the first time and expressed his admiration at Jamiyah’s achievements in being ”the pillar of Singapore society” where inter-religious and inter-communal activities are fostered. He spoke of the embassy’s desire to work closely with Jamiyah in areas that will further enhance the bonding between the people of Singapore and Indonesia. Mr Hasbi Abu Bakar, Chairman, Jamiyah Education Department spoke on possible collaborations between the organizations. One of the ideas brought up was the establishment of a close relationship between Sekolah Indonesia and Jamiyah Singapore. Mr Hasbi reiterated that Jamiyah’s Education Division has had successful collaborations with Tanglin Trust, a British School, in programmes such as ‘Friendship Days’, Youth camps and sports events such as Tele-matches. Other avenues for possible collaboration that we would like to propose would be cultural programmes such as Sekolah Indonesia Singapura’s ‘Sanggar-Budaya Indonesia’. Jamiyah Singapore look forward to teachers and students from both Jamiyah and Sekolah Indonesia having an exchange programme similar to what we currently have with Tanglin Trust. Bapak Yayan also touched on other areas of interest such as politics and the plight of domestic helpers in Singapore as well as domains of social contrast such as literature. He spoke of their interest in Islamic Literature and their interest in the promotion of ‘Music Serukun’. Bapak Yayan responded positively to the proposals brought up by Mr Hasbi and Mr Mohd Noor and proposed to elaborate on the details of the collaboration further, to include an outline of possible schedules and plans for the second half of this year. Both organizations voice their optimism and look forward to greater joint effort and co-operation |
