Visit by the Religious Delegation from People’s Republic of China

Jamiyah Singapore greeted the Religious Delegation from the People’s Republic of China on 1st June 2009. The programme began with a short tour of Jamiyah’s Kindergarten, Counselling Unit and Legal Clinic followed by a Multi-media presentation on Jamiyah Singapore – our History and Programmes.
The session then proceeded with a welcome address by Mr H M Saleem. He thanked Mr Lee Bock Guan Chairman, Singapore Buddhist Lodge and Mr Rustom Ghadiali, President of the IRO and President of the Parsee-Zoroastrian Association of Southeast Asia, for facilitating the visit.
Exchanging greetings with the delegates, President, Jamiyah Singapore, Hj Abu Bakar Maidin reiterated Jamiyah’s position as a non-political and non-profit organization of 76-years standing, with the mission of serving the nation and the public.  He emphasized the services that Jamiyah provides to the public, which include health, education and community-welfare programmes and touched on our close connections with other religious organizations such as the Singapore Buddhist Lodge, the Hindu Endowments Board, Buddhist Federation and various other organisations in implementing diverse programmes for the community.
The Director, Foreign Relations, State Administration of Religious Affairs, Mdm Guo Wei, on behalf of the Chinese Islamic Association extended her greetings to Hj Abu Bakar Maidin and commended Jamiyah Singapore for its contribution to the welfare of the community. She further articulated that the aim of their visit was also to prepare for the exhibition that the delegation intends to hold in December this year, entitled “China, Singapore, Religion and Culture Exhibition 2009”. As a representative of the Muslim China Association, she expressed her sincere hope that Jamiyah Singapore will support their event later this year, which will be held in collaboration with the Inter-Religious Organisation, Singapore.
