Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the China Xi’an Muslim Business Chamber of Commerce and Jamiyah Singapore and Mackeen International Pte Ltd on Friday, 22 May 2009 |
| The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between President, Jamiyah Singapore, Haji Abu Bakar Maidin and Haji Sha Pengcheng from the China Xi’an Muslim Business Chamber of Commerce on Friday, 22 May 2009 marks a milestone in Jamiyah’s efforts towards progress for the Muslim community here and a golden opportunity for local businesses to penetrate the China ‘halal’ market. Under this Memorandum, Jamiyah and the China Xi’an Muslim Business Chamber of Commerce, agree to explore collaborations in various programmes including education, development of youth, community development and human resources. With the Chamber looking towards easing the business communication and processes involved, it is hoped that this agreement would provide the impetus for improvement and progress for the Muslim community in Singapore. Jamiyah Singapore stated our plans to explore the possibility of establishing a commercial school in Xian using the current Jamiyah Business School model and to offer scholarships for students from Xian to study in Singapore. President, China Xi’an Muslim Business Chamber of Commerce, Haji Sha Pengcheng, expressed the Chamber’s desire to establish a business network with Muslim businessmen in Singapore. He stated that their organization is the only Muslim Business Chamber of Commerce in China, acting as a point of contact for thousands of Muslim businesses in the Xian area, in diverse industries in China. They are interested in establishing a working relationship with Muslim businesses in Singapore, through the signing of the agreements with Jamiyah Singapore and Mackeen International. The delegation from China comprised Muslim businessmen from various industries in Xi’an, ranging from pharmacy, real estate, construction, technology, food and beverages to interior design and construction. A total of 28 member delegates representing the Chamber visited Singapore for the first time in this introductory process of familiarizing themselves as well as getting to know the local businessmen and the industry here. The visit from our visitors from China ended when they brought much cheer to the orphans in the Darul Ma’wa Children’s Home. |
